Fascination National Park - droll rock nature in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains

Lain in the southeast of Saxony, in Germany, this is the last unobstructed riverscape of unique beauty. In a gigantic sandstone disk numerous gulches have been formed in millions of years by wind and water. Droll sandstone forms, proud mesas, gruff rocks, but also gulches and gorges have been left behind. While vegetation forms its own beings on the scanty dry rocks, the weather pine stamps deadly and silvery-grey the landscape, crystal clear brooks flow along in the valleys. In the deep chill gorges a special micro-climate allows numerous rare mosses to settle. The Elbe Sandstone Mountains with its variety of ferns is unique in Europe.
